The WVDA is working with partners in West Virginia to increase the number of age-one dental visits and pregnancy dental visits for Medicaid recipients.
The WV PEARLS project, Perinatal & Early Action for Resilient Little Smiles, is a multi-year initiative sponsored by the ADA. West Virginia Medicaid recipients rank poorly compared to other states for such visits.
The initial goals for PEARLS include educating both pediatricians, obgyns, dentists, and other providers on the importance of these visits; developing an MCO strategy to increase such visits; and increase actual visits increase by the end of 2027.
There are multiple activities required to help facilitate the success of these initial goals.Β PEARLS planning participants will be identifying obstacles to the initial goals, strategize how to eliminate them, and implement favorable actions to see success.
