Earlier this month, the WVDA met with WV Medicaid to advocate for additional increases to Medicaid dental rates.
In 2025, your WVDA proposed a strategic fee increase to then-newly inaugurated Governor Morrisey. No action was taken. However, during the 2026 Legislative Session, the WVDA successfully had House Bill 5661 introduced to increase Medicaid dental fees and your Executive Director testified at a public hearing on the bill. The bill did not pass; however, WV Medicaid approved a 6+% increase to Medicaid fees later in the spring.
This increase was welcomed by Medicaid dental providers, but there is still significant discrepancy in some key fees, including dentures, as compared to our surrounding states.
WV Medicaid has hired Milliman, an actuarial and consulting firm, to review dental fees. Per Medicaid staff, their goal is to propose a new fee schedule by the end of the 2026.
