PHISHING SCAM ALERT TARGETING DENTAL OFFICES!

Sep 4, 2026 | Office Management

There is an unauthorized email going out from legitimate dental office email accounts.  Most of the offices don’t know it is happening.

This email has a PDF linked to it.  It invites you to open the PDF and when it is opened, it starts to download  “ScreenConnect.”   THIS ALLOWS REMOTE ACCESS TO YOUR COMPUTER BY HACKERS.

This is a screen shot of the lower half of the email:

Once that happens, the hackers can access all of your information.  BE WARY OF OPENING ANY PDFs from other dental offices.

If you’ve received such an email and clicked on the link –  SHUT THE COMPUTER DOWN AND CALL YOUR LIABILITY INSURER.

Some liability plans offer cybersecurity insurance and they will give specific directions on what to do.

A dentist in the northern part of the state shared what her office did: “We contacted our IT team immediately for them to do a deep dive in our computer, specifically in email accounts looking for screenconnect software, to verify that our systems are secure.”

Reports are that this is large scale hitting offices in WV, PA, and DC.
