EXTRA URGENT – Licensing Amendment in Doubt

Feb 20, 2025 | Advocacy

Update on the Universal Licensing Bill (SB 458)

This morning, conversations were held with most members of the House Government Organization Committee regarding an amendment to SB 458 – Universal Licensing.

Delegates David McCormick (R-Monongalia) and Charles Sheedy (R-Marshall) have agreed to sponsor an amendment requiring clinical hand-skill testing for dentists and dental hygienists. Please take a moment to thank them!

Your Immediate Action Is Needed

Please reach out AGAIN to your House Government Organization member and urge them to support the amendment!

Here’s What Legislators Are Saying:

  • β€œIf this test is so important, why don’t they have to do it every year?”
  • β€œAre there a lot of lawsuits against dentists in the 8 states that don’t require the clinical hand-skills test?”
  • β€œWhere are the Facebook posts about people getting hurt by dentists in those 8 states?”
  • β€œIf we give you an amendment, we’ll have to give every group an amendment, and that hurts the bill.”

Only you can help them understand why clinical hand-skill testing is critical for patient safety and why you support this amendment.

Many delegates have heard from dentists. Those in yellow have not heard from dentists. Those in red are not fully supportive of the amendment – yet. PLEASE CONTACT ALL COMMITTEE MEMBERS AGAIN!
